An Amazing 360 Degree Tour with a Stop-Motion Video by Polish Artist Piotr Wancerz

For today’s post, we want to update you on what’s been keeping the Polish artist Piotr Wancerz of Timelapse Media very busy recently. Relax and chill in your seat as he shows us a breathtaking journey through Bolivia and Peru with an amazing stop-motion video below.

It is composed of video frames and  photos with a whopping total of 12,000! Just imagine the work that went during the shoot and the stitching and editing after that. Indeed, the whole stop-motion video was created within a three-week period when Piotr visited South America for the first time.

As you can see, his model seems to be standing still while moving through a wide variety of exhilarating South American landmarks and scenes with most of them appearing to be spinning around her. The dazzling locations include the following:

How exactly did Piotr achieve this? He said in an interview with RightThisMinute, “It was not as precise as it looks — it was a lot of work in post-production.” Even though the whole output was awesome, Piotr still believes it’s not perfect, “Of course, I tried to put her into the same place, but it wasn’t as perfect as I wanted it to be.”

Photographing his travel companion, Marta, was certainly not a walk in the park as it took him 5-10 minutes to shoot the scenes in each location. “It wasn’t easy because it had to be frame-by-frame, but it was possible to do,” he says.

It seemed an impossible feat, but with the craftsmanship of a true master, the project was finished and in high regard at that!

We say, it’s only possible in the hands of a skilled master of the stop-motion craft.

As for what Mashable’s Charlie White have to say? “The resulting video, set to the music of Soundroll’s “Mexican Song,” is reminiscent of a combination of “Where the Hell Is Matt?” and that video of a girl leading a man around the world. It’s just lovely and original enough to become a new classic, don’t you think?”

What is Panoramic Photography and the Techniques in Taking Stunning Images

A unique technique that lets you create an image which is wider than the average field of vision that can be conceived by the human eye is called panoramic photography. It is also usually referred as 360 degree photography or panorama and is mainly used to capture larger than life scenes. Most of the time, users apply this technique when shooting landscapes, events, skylines and any other subject that cannot be captured by a single lens camera.

There are different techniques that can be utilized in taking a panoramic photo with some more effective while others are not. But it doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced photographer or is still starting out as you can easily capture a stunning 360 degree image as long as you spend time practicing the craft.

Another aspect to consider is the equipment and tools used because even though you already have ample experience in taking 360 degree images, results can still be poor even you don’t have the right tools for the activity.

It should also be noted that wide angle is not the same as panoramic as the former enable the photographer to take images in a wider field of view compared to a conventional photo. But these images do not expand to more than 100 to 130 degrees field of view which can lead to a bit of image distortion when not taken appropriately.

The latter (panoramic photography) on the other hand, is a little more complicated. Let’s start with the scale of this photography type which ranges from 160 to a complete 360-degree view. You can just imagine how impossible it is to achieve this unless the photographer has some extra know-how of photographic techniques and the proper tools.

360 degree photos can be taken by using 2 methods with the first being the usage of a rotating panoramic camera. The second way is by taking several photos of the subject and having software that can stitch them together. Many digital cameras and smartphones now come equipped with an app that can easily take 360 degree photographs with YouSpin as one of them.
