Interactive 360 Degree Maps Can Help Prevent Tragedies in Schools

The Columbine School Massacre, Platte Canyon High School Tragedy, Chardon, Ohio School Shooting – These are just among the most horrible school tragedies that happened over the past 5 years. Whether you blame yourselves as parents, blame school for poor security, or blame fate for everything that has happened, we should as civilized people should do everything, I mean everything to avoid these tragedies.

Police authorities from Prairie Village, Kansas, USA agree with this and in fact take action to increase police alertness and response incase of worst case scenarios. Major detective Seth Meyer of the Prairie Village Police Departments creates a platform of an interactive 360 degree map of the Kansas City. This map lets police offices get a more precise visual and plan different resorts to eliminate suspects and save innocent victims.

According to Meyer, “The school crisis mapping is essentially an interactive floor plan of Shawnee Mission East with an interconnected web of 360 degree spherical photos, so essentially that officer can walk through the school, walk every classroom, every hallway, every exterior space and be able to see the school in it’s entirety. This allows officers to actually be at the school, be able to walk the school, before they get there so they can orient themselves and know what they’re going to see when they walk into the school.”

However the plan doesn’t stop there. Even with this high tech 360 interactive map of the city, teachers and school staff are required to have preparedness plan in place, just in case. Better prepared than sorry. Meyer added, “They will be able to work with our inside commanders by using the maps, so we can start sending in resources whether it be the police department, fire department, medical and start assisting them as to what might be the best course of action.”

Thanks for the blog about my 360 degree virtual crisis mapping. The two things you never have enough of during a crisis situation is time and information. This all-hazards mapping provides responding emergency personnel all the above in an easy to operate software package. We must always prepare for the unknown.
